Crux Privacy Policy

Crux is built to be local-first: your meeting audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. This page explains, plainly, what that means and where the exceptions are.

The short version

  • Your audio is recorded and transcribed entirely on your device. It never gets uploaded anywhere by us.
  • We don't run analytics or telemetry, and there's no user account — we have no server that stores or sees your content.
  • There are exactly three things Crux sends over the network. They're listed in full below. Nothing else leaves your Mac.

What Crux stores, and where

Recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated notes are saved as files in a folder you choose during setup (default: ~/Documents/Meeting Minutes). They live on your disk like any other document — you can move them, back them up, or delete them however you like. We have no copy and no way to access them; we don't operate a server that your content passes through.

The three things that leave your Mac

1. AI-notes requests — only if you set one up. Crux can generate AI meeting notes, but only using an LLM endpoint you configure yourself: your own API key with a provider of your choice (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, or others), or a local model on your own machine (e.g. Ollama). No endpoint is preconfigured. If you don't set one up, Crux never sends anything anywhere for notes — you just get transcripts. If you do, the transcript text needed to generate notes is sent to your chosen provider, under their privacy policy and terms — see below.

2. License activation and validation. When you activate your license key, and periodically afterward, Crux checks with Lemon Squeezy's licensing API to confirm the key is valid. This exchange includes your license key and basic device information needed to enforce the license terms. It does not include your recordings, transcripts, or notes.

3. Update checks. Crux periodically checks for new versions. This is a simple request for version information — it doesn't send any of your content.

About your LLM provider

If you enable AI notes with your own endpoint, be aware: the transcript text Crux sends for that request is handled by that provider, not by us. We have no visibility into what they do with it, and no control over it — that's between you and the provider you chose. Read their privacy policy before enabling this feature, and pick a local model (e.g. Ollama) if you'd rather nothing ever leaves your Mac at all.

Lemon Squeezy (payment processing)

Purchases are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. They collect and process your payment details, billing information, and issue your license key. We never see or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy governs that data: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

What we don't do

  • No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
  • No user accounts, sign-in, or profile data.
  • No advertising or ad tracking.
  • No selling or sharing of your data — we don't have any to sell.

Children's privacy

Crux is not directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
